MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday, October 16. [Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.] _ Neglected Children. John Daniels, aged ten ; Charles Morris, aged eight; and Ellen Dora Morris, aged three years, were brought up as neglected children. The arresting constable deposed that the mother of the children, the eldest by a former husband, had been left by her husband, and was leading a begging and disreputable life. His Worship ordered the eldest to be sent to the Industrial School for five years, the other two for seven years each, all to be brought up in the Eoman Catholic religion. Vagrancy.—Robert G-allagher was charged with vagrancy, he being the occupier of a house frequented by persons having no lawful visible means of support. Inspector Buckley led evidence which showed the man's house to be of the most disreputable character. H. pleaded that he could not help it, as his wife and her cronies just did as they liked. If allowed a month's time he would clear out of the country. He was sentenced to six month's imprisonment with hard labor.
