The statements made to them by the prisoner are considered to be suspicious looking. The evidence for the Crown is expected to be completed to-day, and the defence is to be taken on Friday. Dunedin, October 11. The Indian Famine Relief Committee have authorised the Mayor to forward £2OO to Madras as a first instalment. At the annual meeting of the Otago District Committee M.U.1.0.0.F. last night it was reported that the income for the six months was £3502. Mr Charles Bright, lecturer, was entertained at a soiree and ball in the Temperance Hall last night. He leaves for Auckland and Sydney. Wellington, October 11, A slight shock of earthquake was felt here last night a few minutes before ten. Nelson, October 11. A smart shock of earthquake occurred at 8.50 last night, the direction apparently being S.W. to N.F. The weather was gloomy at the time.
