To the Editor of the Ulvbe. Sm,—l beg that you will grant me space for a brief reply to your article on the Press .Agency in yesterday’s issue. As to the accuracy Jof the particular telegram quoted by you, I shall say nothing more than that differences of opinion exist on most subjects, and doubtless the question of how the public view the projected establishment of another company here is no exception to the rule. It must be remembered, however, that I spoke generally, and what came under my personal notice fully justified all 1 said. I do not think it necessary to defend myself against the charge of inspiration which may bo applied with equal justice to your article, and other expressions of opinion. The public arc quite competent to discriminate between light and wrong in these things. With reference to the telegram loading people to believe that the company is being called into existence by ’lie Bank of .Now Zealand, it, might just as reasonably be s d l that the firm of Wilson and .'-awtdl pulled the string. B >th are mentioned in the same sentence, but. perhaps unfortunately, the Bank is placed first. I observe that other journals have had something to say on this matter, but I would

remark that there is more than one man in the world who writes editorial articles for two or three separate journals, thus?j|what appears in them cannot always he taken as so many independent opinions, hut rather as representing the views, not unfrequently inspired, of one man only. Yours. &c..
