Wo learn from Captain Galbraith that the William Davie caught a westerly breeze on Friday afternoon, and was out of sight before dark. The Ansdell, barque, reports seeing her going away before a stiff breeze, so that her passage home has commenced most auspiciously. The Collector of Customs at Dunedin has received the following information from the master of the schooner Friendship :—A quantity of wreckage, consisting of several square logs of cedar timber, also a large eagle painted white, being the figurehead of a ship of about 1000 tons, was found washed np on the west side of Macqnarrie Island when the Friendship was there last mouth. The ‘‘Otago Times” states that the John Vine Hall advertised as the master of the grand steamer Chimborazo, of the Orient Line, between Loudon and Australia, is the junior of that name, and once commander of the steamers Eangitotoand Egmont. The Eangitoto was his first command—in 180o—when he snpersed Captain Hands at Melbourne, and brought the Eangitoto across to Hokitika.
