LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH.
After the meeting of the Drainage Board the ordinary meeting of the Local Board of Health was held, Mr F. Hobbs in the chair. chairman’s remarks. The Chairman reported that, in reply to a telegram received from Mr Stevens, he had sent one saying the limit was 2d in the pound. A blank had been left in the Bill by the Board’s solicitor. With the permission of members he had instructed that the new closet pans should bo handed over to the City Council to have them tested within the city. inspector’s report. The inspector reported that— With reference to the nuisance complained of on land in St Asaph street west steps were being taken to abate the same. He had found tho owner of section 98, Pbiilipstown, and had served a notice on him to abate the nuisance arising from stagnant water lying on the section. The filling up of other hollow places in tho neighbourhood (being portions of Jackson’s Creek) were progressing satisfactorily. He had served notices on owners of land in Aikman’s lane, Papanui road, to abate a nuisance arising from stagnant water. He had reported a nuisance arising from stagnant water on land fronting on Armagh street and East Belt, section 26, Heathcote District, under clause 56, sub-section 2, of the Public Health Act, and had served notices on the owners. Had called attention of the Colombo road school committee to a nuisance arising from the drainage of the school grounds and offices. The condition of the drainage on the Eiccarton side of the Lincoln road near the Feathers Hotel was very unsatisfactory, the water being obstructed by entrances to premises. The notice served on Church property trustees to abate a nuisance on section 243 b, Avon District, had expired. He stated, in reference to that, that a contractor would commence the required work immediately. Some delay had been occasioned by the ground being too wet to be worked. The report was approved, and instructions given to issue certain notices. MR WIGUTMAN’S SECTIONS. The first clause of the Engineer’s report referred to the Local Board of Health, was referred to the City Council, with a request that they take the necessary action. EAST CHRISTCHURCH BATHS. A letter from Mr N. G. Barnett, stating the effect the pumping out of those baths had on his premises, was postponed for consideration until the Engineer’s report has been received. NIGHT PANS. The thanks of the Board were accorded to Mr J. Eussell Goodman for his trouble in getting over plates of pans used in San Francisco, on which the new pans had been modelled. This concluded the business.
