Cable Communication. "Wellington, September 25. Dr Lemon has just received a service telegram from Bavaria, stating that the cable is now (yesterday) clear of traffic. The Resident Magistrate has given judgment in a'disputed case arising under the Marriage Act, 1858. The plaintiff applied for a marriage license, and wished to give fourteen days' notice, which would enable him to obtain a license for five shillings. Being eligible to take out an immediate license, the registrar demanded a fee of 20s. The plaintiff paid it under protest, and sued to recover the remain ing 15s. The Magistrate, after a good deal of consideration, held that the registrar was right in demanding the 20s fee, and that the 5b fee was payable only where the party was
an infant,, and his case came under the seventh section of the Marriage Act. Judgment therefore was given for the defendant with costs. Mr Ollivier appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Stafford on behalf of the Government.
