Arawata arrived at 3.10 a.m. to-day. She Bails for Melbourne via South this afternoon. The Union Company’s s.s. Eotorua was commanded this time by Captain Kennedy. She brought 120 bales Of wool for the Waikato and Wm. Davie, and some other general cargo, arriving ► "on Saturday at 9 a.m., being berthed the steamers’ wharf. Mr Pringle, the purser, to whom we are indebted for files, reports leaving Port Chalmers at 3.10 p.m., and having fresh N.E. breeze and smooth sea to arrival as above. The Eotorua took aboard 50 tons outward cargo and the outward Frisco mail, and sailed for Sydney, via Auckland and East Coast, at 5.45 p.m. on Saturday. The barquentiue Argosy was moored to discharge at Peacock’s Wharf on Saturday afternoon. As will be seen by our list of departures, quite a fleet of vessels sailed yesterday when the sou’-west breeze sprang up. The Sea Bird, which started the night previous, had to bring up at Camp Bay, but finally departed with the rest of the fleet yesterday morning. The Tongariro went to Kaiapoi on Saturday to tow out the Janette. After getting her well clear of the land she cast off. Both vessels arrived in harbor on Saturday evening. The Janette will be placed on the slip to undergo repair. The Tongariro towed the Queensland into the stream on Saturday. The ‘‘New Zealand Times” is informed that the New Zealand Steam Shipping Company are having now prepared in Wellington, by a well-known engineer, plans of a new steamer, which it is proposed to send home and have a vessel constructed therefrom. She will be about 200 ft long, and register between 100 and 200 tons. Her average speed is expected to be 16 knots, and she is to be employed in the coastal trade. SAILING OP THE N.Z.S. COMPANY’S SHIP WAIKATO. This fine ship completed loading on Saturday morning, and cleared the Customs, sailing during the afternoon. Considering that it is the dullest season of the year, the Waikato lias had very fair despatch, as it is not yet two months since she arrived. Her cargo, as will be seen by her export list, is a very miscellaneous one, betokening the end of the season, but at the same time it is one of the most valuable that has ever left Lyttelton. We append our customary list with approximate value
ai, V VWA Ml mi mi A V/ A N.E. breeze was blowing during Saturday, and about 3.15 p.m. the ship was towed from the wharf by the p.s. Titan. There was quite a crowd of people on the wharf to see the ship otf, including several of the directors of the company and many friends of the passengers, of which latter the Waikato took the respectable number of twentynine. As the ship was to proceed to sea without delay, only the pilot and one or two who were really obliged to go went down the harbor in her, the remainder coming ashore just before she cast olf, and giving her a cheer as she was towed away. There was not a very fresh breeze, and the Titan made good way with her, the Breakwater being rounded at 3.53 p.m., the Heads passed at 5.15, Pigeon Bay being well opened at 6.50, and the Long Look-out passed at 10. Once past the Long Look-out, the Titan towed her well clear of the land, the tow line being let go at 10.30, and the pilot and others coming aboard, the Titan started for home at 10.45, arriving alongside the wharf at 2 a.m. yesterday. The breeze was light from the E.N.E. outside, with a smooth sea, and when the tug cast olf the ship was on a wind with plain sail set, well clear of the Peninsula. The Waikato is in good trim for making a smart passage, being well out of the water, some considerable portion of her cargo being loose wool. SHIPPING TELEGEAMS. Bluff, September 24. The Eingarooma left Melbourne at 4.30 p.m. on the 10th; cleared the Heads same day at 7.30 p.m.; passed Swan Island on the 20th, the Solanders on the 20th; arrived at the Bluff this morning. Experienced light east winds and dense fog for the first two days, then S.E. winds and flue weather. She brings 33 saloon, 39 steerage, and 600 tons cargo for all ports. She sails at 4 p.m. for Dunedin. Saloon passengers for Lyttelton; Messrs Elleray, Collins, Wilson, Godfrey,, and 0 in steerage, and 1&4 tons cargo.
