Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places as under, subject to necessary alterations: — MONDAY, September 24th, For Otago, overland, at 6 a.m. Mails per Arawata will close as under : For the United Kingdom, via Southampton and Brindisi, 1 p.m.; late letters, 1.20 p.m. For Otago, Australian Colonies, India, China and the East, the Continent of Europe, &c., &c., at 1 p.m.; late letters, 1.20 p.m. Newspapers and book packets at noon, Eegistered letters, noon. Money orders, 11.30 a.m. , . The English mail, via Bnndisi, will be due in Loudon November 19th. The English mail via Southampton will bo due in London November 26th. „ . . , , Late letters for mails per Arawata can be posted in the guard's van, Christchurch Eailway Station, by 2.30 p.m. train for Lyttelton, provided such letters bear, in addition to the full postage, a further single rate of postage as a late fee. It is suggested that all letters intended for transmission by the Suez mail should be secured with gum or wafers, the use of sealing wax having been found to cause delay in separating letters, and in some instances to lead to addresses on envelopes being rendered illegible For North and South of New Zealand, on Tuesday, 25th inst. ” J.
