MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHEISTCHHECH. Saturday, September 22. [Before W. Donald, Esq., E.M.] Drunkenness. —Ellen Boyle was charged with being drunk and disorderly. It appeared that she had been 15 times before the Court, and that she had been released from Addington gaol only a few weeks ago. She pleaded hard to be let off, saying that she had a situation in view. His Worship ordered her to pay a fine of 10s, or go to prison for 48 hours.
False Pretences. —W. J. Palloon was charged, at the instance of T. Yates, bootmaker, with obtaining goods to the value of 29s 6d from his shop under false pretences. Falloon denied that there had been any false pretences in the matter, and Yates asked leave to withdraw the information, as he had no witnesses to sustain it. The Court, in sanctioning the withdrawal, remarked that the prosecutor in laying a serious charge and then withdrawing it, laid himself open to great suspicion.
LYTTELTON. Saturday, September 22. [Before Dr. Eouse, J.P.] Drunkenness. —William Williams was fined 10s, or in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment, for this offence.
