PARLIAMENTARY INCIDENTS.
[X'KOJI THE COERESrON-DIiXT or THU XMtESS.] Wklmnoton, September 19. The House has gone wild on the subject of disqualification. A committee of the Legislative Council has declared Mr Peacock disqualified as having received salary on a Board of River Conservators, and to-day Mr Fisher asked as to his position in the House, he be.ng in same position. Mr Rees has a motion on the Order Paper for appointment of a. committee to enquire into the disqualification of
Mr Martin Kennedy, on the ground of haying taken contracts for the Government and into the seat of Mr Whitaker on the ground of his having contracts with Government in reference to Piako Swamp. To-night, being private members’ night, a number of local Bills will make progress. Major Atkinson has been too unwell to attend the House for the last day or two, but tonight ho is bettor. It is said that the Government could now only command a majority of two on a vote of Want-of-Confidence, but I do not hear that it is to be brought down yet.
