Mr Whitaker said that, in assenting to its introduction, the Government did not pledge themselves to approve of the Bill in any way. THE EDUCATION BILL. In committee on the Education Bill, a division took place after a long discussion on the question whether a Committee or the Minister should collect the capitation tax. The latter was carried by 43 to 30. An amendment to strike out tho clause altogether was then carried by 38 to 31. Clauses 80, 81, 82, and 83 were also struck out. Clause 84 was passed. In clause 85 an amendment was moved to omit the word " history." The word was retained by 54 to 6.
