BOARD OF HEALTH.

♦ After the meeting of the Drainage Board, the usual meeting of the Local Board of Health was held; Mr F. Hobbs in the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting having been confirmed, the chairman said he had received a note from Mr E. C. J. Stevens, saying the Health Bill was still in the printer ’& hands, and when printed the Sohcitor-Q-eneral had promised to supervise the Bill. inspector’s report. The Inspector reported that he had inquired into a nuisance complained of on Mr Bates’s premises, Lichfield street. He had found that there was a small engine on the works, the nuisance from which would lessen any inconvenience to the residents when additions had been put to the premises. An artesian well, allowed to constantly flow, had been the chief cause of the dampness complained of. With reference to a nuisance arising from stagnant water on lot 98, rural section, Phillipstown, he could not find the owner of the property. He had made a house to house inspection at Phillipstown, and found in many instances that many were making only temporary arrangements until permanent provision is made for removing the night soil. The report was adopted. EAST CHRISTCHURCH BATHS. The Secretary to the Board of Education wrote, saying that the East Christchurch Baths would be emptied, and asking that the Board’s engineer might be requested to inspect it. It was decided to comply with the request, Mr Gr. H, Sharpe’s letter, read at the Drainage Board’s meeting, was referred to the inspector. The Chairman said three cases of fever had been reported by the medical officer. This concluded the business.
