Last Wight’s Proceedings. Wellington, September 15. The Education Bill was considered in committee. Clauses 51 and 52 were postponed. Clause 53, words requiring the consent of the Minister to making District High Schools, retained on a division of 38 to 10. An amendment on clause 54 to make the fees of the District High Schools to cover the cost of education given, was lost on a division by 4-3 to 2. The remaining clauses to 75 wei’e passed. An amendment was moved to omit the words relating to capitation tax in clause 76, and after a long discussion, it was rejected by 38 to 24. Clauses 77 and 78 were passed, and progress reported. The Census Bill was passed through the remaining stages unaltered. The Friendly Societies Dill -was partly considered in committee, and the House rose at 1.50 a.m.
