The Alert, schooner, was towed over the Hokitika bar and into the wharf on Wednesday. The brigantine Esther cleared at Nelson for Lyttelton, via Waitapu, on the 6th inst. The Especnlador was berthed at No. 3 Wharf yesterday, and the Unity at Peacock’s Wharf. The Minnehaha will be berthed at Peacock’s to-day. The Pet, barque, and Excelsior, schooner, went into the fairway yesterday. The Columbia, schooner. Captain Conway, arrived yesterday afternoon from Napier, in ballast. Her niaster reports leaving with a southerly breeze on the sth. The breeze continued for six days, Cape Palliser being passed on Tuesday morning. Prom that point had fresh nor’wester to arrival. As usual, the Columbia loads produce for Napier. The London “ Times” of the 26th of July reports the arrival of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s ship Opawa, from Lyttelton, off the Lizards on the 24th of July, seventy-two days out. The following temporary apportionment of the Queen Bee relief fund, chiefly raised in Nelson, has been made£3ls have been divided among eighteen passengers; £92 among the crew; the three mates were presented with .£lO each, and an additional sum of .£ls was handed over to Mr Going in recognition of the services rendered by him in searching for the missing boats. Arrived—Wanaka, from Lyttelton. COLLISION ON HOKITIKA BAB, [per press agenct.] Hokitika, September 13. Whilst the tng steamer Lioness was towing in the Pelican, which had arrive! from Oamaru, the tug grounded, causing a collision and damaging the schooner, which had her topmast broken and one side of her bulwarks smashed in. The Lioness remained on the Spit and the schooner sailed in. The tug will get off next tide. FOUNDEEING OF THE SHIP CHEISTIAN McCAUSLAND. [from our own correspondent.] Dunedin, September 13. The ship Christian McCausland has foundered on the coast of Batavia. Captain Cowper and all the crew wore saved. She first struck ou a reef, and then went down. There are no further particulars.
