PARLIAMENTARY INCIDENTS.
(FROM THE CORRESPONDENT OE THE PRESS.) Wellington, September 13. It is rumored that a direct rote of no confidence is to be brought down next week, but I believe this to be premature. The strength of parties is not sufficiently ascertained to risk such a motion. Mr Stout had placed Mr Rees’s motion as to an inquiry into Hawke’s Bay land purchases on the Order Paper again, but was absent from the House this afternoon when it was called on. Mr Ormond made an explanation withdrawing part of his statements of corrupt conduct against Sir G. Grey, but confirming what he said as to his (Sir Gr. Grey’s) willingness to enter into the land company on the strength of telegrams received from Mr Mr Cox detailing the matter. Sir George Grey was absent from the House when these telegrams were read, and has just now moved the adjournment of the House that he may see them. It is certain not to be carried, as tliis has been made a private members’ night, and a large number of local Bills arc on the Order Paper. The Deceased Wife’s Sister Bill passed the Lower House last night, but it is improbable that it will pass the Upper House. Eight o’clock. Mr Ormond has just repeated the telegrams for Sir G. Grey’s satisfaction, so possibly the House may proceed harmoniously for this evening.
