GENTLEME NT, —Having been requested to offer myself for election as a member of the City Council, 1 have much plea sure in announcing my compliance. For some time past I have been a careful observer of the proceedings of the City Council, and having a large interest at stake I shall, if elected, devote whatever time and attention may be required to fulfil the duties of a Councillor to the best of my ability. Not only that, but as Manager of the Monte de Piete Pawnbroking Company, my time is fully taken up with advancing money at the lowest rate of interest to the Sixteen Candidates before referred to, and any other men in impecunious circumstances that may favor me with their custom. That, with the extensive sale business now carried on at my establishment, will pretty clearly show you I have no time to air my native eloquence at your Council Board.
