The mpil agent reports that the City of New York, with the, outward mails, arrived at Honolulu on the 17th of July, and loft the next day, and arrived at San Francisco on July 26th. Landed the mails at 0.30 a.m. The time from Auckland to San Francisco was 21 days 12 hours. Left San Francisco with the English mails on August 15 ; arrived at Honolulu on the 23rd. Sailed same day lor Auckland; arrived at 6.30 this afternoon. The Wanaka sails from Auckland with the mail to-morrow morning at nine o’clock. Hokitika, September 8. The schooner Clio, from Lyttelton, grounded on the North spit, when being towed in. A portion of the cargo was discharged and the vessel is expected to be got off. PARLIAMENTARY. Last Night’s Proceedings. ’ Wellington, September 8. The debate on the Hawke’s Bay Native land transactions was continued by Mr Seymour, Sir G. Grey (who denied having been a member of the land purchasing company referred to), Messrs Sutton, and Stout. Mr Russell’s amendment was negatived on the voices. Mr Whitaker moved to add to Mr Rees’s motion words to the effect that the committee inquire into the charges; made against Mr Ormond and Sir G. Grey, and into the alleged improper lawsuits in Hawke’s Bay. Mr Whitaker’s amendment was rejected by 26 to 25. The debate on the original motion was continued till the adjournment, at 1.20 a.m.
