The Dunedin High Schools. Dunedin, September 4. A meeting of the High School Committee was held yesterday afternoon, when it was determined to telegraph to the Hon. Mr Bowen, asking for the appointment of a Commission. Mr A. J. Burns, who' is also a member of the Board, is in Dunedin at the present time, and is in favor of the appointment of a Commission, and will, if necessary, on his return to Wellington, xivge upon the G-overnment the advisability of such a course being adopted. Mrs Burn and four other teachers in the G-irls' High School have written to the Education Board as follows—- " Having furnished the Education Board with our resignations before any mention was made of the appointment of a Commission to investigate into the High School affairs, at the request of the High School Committee, we are willing, whilst still adhering to our resignations placed in the hands of the Board, to consent, with a view to facilitate the work of the Commission, that they should not at present be accepted by the Board, but held in abeyance until the Commission has reported." Railway Accident. Lawrence, September 4. A railway accident happened yesterday. The mid-day train ran into a land-slip caused by recent heavy rains near the Bound Hill tunnel. The train went off the line, but none were seriously injured. The mid-day mails did not arrive until 8 p.m. At the meeting of the Soman Catholics last night re the Education Bill, resolutions were passed similar in effect to those passed by the same denomination elsewhere.
