CHRISTCHURCH. Monday, September 3. (Before Gr. L. Mellish, Esq., E.M.) Drunkenness. —Patrick Dunn, for being drunk and using obscene language, was lined 20s and cab hire; C. James, ss; Martin Spelane, 5s and cab hire; W. Elliot, drunkenness and indecent exposure, 40s ; H. Mullins, 5s ; Margaret Bowen, for using obscene language in a public place on the 21st August, was fined 20s. Slaughtering Licenses. Slaughtering licenses were granted without opposition to Thomas Coleman, section 31, Feudal town ; James Dann, section 313, Avon district ; F. Hopkins and Co., section 1118, Heathcote ; Wright Hillwell, section 1030, Hallswell; W. H. Lodge, section 557, New Brighton ; J. B. Nisbett, sections 140 and 147, Lincoln road; and J. T. Townshend, section 4506, Lincoln. J. T. Dingle’s application for a slaughtering license, section 325, Avon district, was refused, on the ground that the site was undesirable, near the road and a number of homesteads. His Worship said there were too many slaughter-houses in the district, and that there should bo public abbatoirs. Miscellaneous. —T. E. Ballard, allowing a cow to be at large within the city boundaries, was fined ss; John Jones, obstructing a public way, 20s ; D. Craw, permitting a horse to wander at large, ss. D. Parish was charged with driving over a railway crossing while a train was approaching, but after hearing evidence his Worship dismissed the case. P. McCallum, at the instance of the Inspector of Nuisances, was accused of allowing a ferocious dog to go unmuzzled. The evidence showed that the offence complained of had not occurred within a public place, and the ease was dismissed. R. Butler was ordered to contribute 5s a week towards the support of his little girl at the Industrial School. Mary Taylor was charged with obtaining goods on false pretences from R. Cole; also with larceny as a bailee in the matter of a carpet bag belonging to Miss McCauley. Inspector Buckley stated that Miss McCauley was a patient in the Hospital, of which the accused had also been an inmate. The prisoner was remanded till 2 o’clock next day.
