Jackson’s Bay Settlement. —A correspondent of the “ West Coast Times ” resident at Jackson’s Bay writes thus of the Special Settlement there:—l am not prepared to endorse every action of the Administration, but, taking things all in all, there is more reason for praise than for blame. The great majority of the settlers arc satisfied ; the area of cleared land is increasing in size from day to day : our four roads are reaching completion ; Okura possesses now a wharf, which is a great credit to our Inspector of Works, Mr Nightingale ; the sample of quartz lately sent to Melbourne has been pronounced by the analyist to he of good quality ; and, in short, everything indicates slow but steady progress
