[Per Hero via Auckland.] Melbourne, August 17. The land sales have averaged 125,000 acres monthly, against 85,000 for the last year monthly. A party lias gone to Minders' Island to try and raise the wrecked ship City of Foo Choo. In the Financial Statement the Treasurer j referred to the proposed Industrial Exhibition which is to cost from £ BO,OOO to £IOO,OOO, ex- ' teading over several yeaje, and £7OOO is
now asked for as a commencement. The land tax would be the same as that previously proposed. From this source he estimated to receive £200,000. Duties at fixed rates would be remitted to the amount of £86,753. New duties would be imposed to the amount of £15,000, and increased duties of £28,500 or £28,000 for the present, year. Brisbane, August 18. Some Chinese stuck up Warden Hasard and robbed him of £2OO. The steamship Normanby struck on an unknown reef otf Percy Island, at the west end of Pine Islets. The first soundings in the fore compartment showed two feet six inches of water. The vessel was beached off Lagoon Island at half-Hood. Then there was eight feet of water in the fore-hold. , Landed her passengers and stores and mails. The ship was then full of water in the fore and main holds. There was no water in the engineroom or after-hold. The ship was aground fore and aft at low water. All the passengers, mails, and specie were transhipped. Divers, with pumps, leave for the scene of the wreck on Saturday. Captain Reddell considers the vessel may be saved if immediate assistance is sent.
The schooner Bobtail Nag arrived at Rockhampton with labourers. The vessel was fired at by the natives of one of the islands. When leaving, ten of the recruits bocoming home-sick, jumped overboard and were drowned.

[PER PRESS AGENCY.] Serious Explosion at Greymouth. GrREYMOUTH, August 25. An explosion of gas took place yesterday in the shaft of the Grroymouth Coal Company. Three men w r erc seriourly injured. There were three men at the bottom of the shaft. The first intimation of the accident was a sheet of flame coming from the [shaft, which severely burned the man on the top, and charred the poppets head. Immediately means were taken to rescue the three below, whom it was feared were killed. On descending they found them alive. One man was comparatively uninjured, and the other two severely burned. One had both arms broken. They were taken to the Hospital. The names of the injured men arc Crawford, Kerr, and
Hassal.
