Bombay, August 19,1.44 p.m. Sulieman Pasha's army is now north of the Balkans. Sakmica is in a state of siege. Poti has been deserted. Hobart Pasha is at Sinope. Circassian immigration to Turkey is increasing. Bombay, August L'O. The Russian advanced guard is skirmishing in the vicinity of Rustchuk. A Turkish official despatch says a detachment from the garrison repulsed the Russians. A Turkish force lias re-entered Dobrudscha. The Russians are advancing against them. A Russian official despatch admits that the Russian reconnaisance was repulsed at Osman Bazar. Roodervish has carried the advanced Russian positions at Batoum. Commercial. London, August 19. Wool —The opening competition was well maintained and prices improve as the sales progress. The home trade are operating vigorously; 30,000 bales have been sold. The wheat market is depressed ; imports are increasing. There is fine harvest weather. Australian, 67s ; New Zealand, 54s to 5Ss. New Zealand liax, scarce. Shipping. London, August 19. The Queensland mail was delivered on the 14th, and the San Francisco mail on the loth. Sailed - Chimborazo, on the 13th, and the Durham, to-day. INTERPROYINCIAL. [per press agency.] Australian Cricket Team. Dunedin, August 21. Private letters have been received from Mr Conway, Victoria, in which he states that the Australian cricket team, prior to their departure for England, will visit Otago. _ His opinion is that they will show as good cricket as the Britishers, and may be expected here about the middle of January. A fire occurred in George street last night, which resulted in the destruction of three small shops. The insurance oflices are interested to the following extent:— New Zealand, £7OO ; Globe, £300; Standard, £300; Victoria, £IOO. A general meeting of the membars of the Otago railway Employees Benefit Society was held' last night for the purpose of considering proposal from the Superintending Engineer, Christchnrch, that the Dunedin society should amalgamate with that of Christchurch. The following resolution was carried: —" That this society agrees to amalgamate with the Christchurch Benefit Society, and such other railway benefit societies as exist in the colony on condition that this society's rules be adopted, and that the head office be permanently held in Dunedin."
