WANT OF TRUCKS. Trucks were as scarce as ever yesterday, and after a long discussion on the matter a number of masters determined on communicating with the Government on the matter. The following is a copy of a telegram sent by them to Mr Orinoud. Minister of Public Works, on the subject :---"We the undersigned shipmasters, now in the Port of Lyttelton, beg respectfully to draw your attention to the great wan*-, of trucks'in the Port, consequent upon the new railway regulations, whereby trucks are detained in Christchurch before being discharged. Such detention results in an immense expense and delay to vessels frequenting the port. We trust that you will give the matter your earnest consideration, and remedy the existing evil without delay. (Signed); John McKeuzie, master Cabarfeidh; J. W. Garth, master Clematis; Jas. Davis, master John Knox; F. Boock, master Amalie ; E. Williams, master Island City; H. Westbrook, master Sea Shell; Geo. Walker, master Sea Spray; W. S. Mauson, master Canny Scot." It is to be hoped that the telegram will have some effect, fortheselong detentions are rendering Lyttelton quite an unpopular port.
