The yacht Secret has been sold to a Sydney gentleman for £550. Wellington, August 17. Mr Barton, solicitor, writes a letter to the “Post” this evening in which he comments sarcastically upon the recent action of the Bar in in regard to his proceedings against the Chief Justice and Mr Justice Eichmond. He complains of being prejudged, and concludes his letter thus —“ I cannot conclude this letter without adding that I know not which the more to admire, the child-like faith or the cringing servility of the Wellington local Bar.” Nelson, August 17. It is reported from Farewell Spit that a quantity of wreckage is lying there, apparently torn from the bow of some vessel. There arc pieces of rail 2Cft. long by 12in. by din.,'of bright hard wood,like mahogany or teak, with planking attached, on which are cut the letters ANTOFAGASTA ; also a female figure-head sft. high, painted white, with a wreath of roses round the head. At the Q.ueen Bee inquiry to-day, Captain Davis attributed the wreck to an error in the compasses, which never worked well all the voyage, the observations sometimes showing them to be two and a half points out.
