THE MAYOR’S EXPLANATION.
(To the Editor of the Globe.) Sir, —Referring to the above in your issue of yesterday, I feel bound to remark that my knowledge of the real action of Mr Hobbs at Wellington on the rating question was gathered from a gentleman in no way connected with the Council, subsequently to having received the Mayor’s reply to my letter, and sending the same to the newspaper for puoiication. I addressed my letter of enquiry on the Bth instant and re ■ ceived answer on the 10th. The correspondence did not get published on the 11th as expected, nor on Monday 13th, on which day I was made acquainted with the erroneous information contained in the telegrams and called at once at the editor’s office to withdraw it. Not being at home I called again, and on the following day, each time ■without seeing him. And now four days having elapsed I concluded the communication would not appear and did not take further action but of course when on the 15th the letters were published, I at once Avrote to explain that 1 was able entirely to exonerate Mr Hobbs and explained the cause of the action I had taken. Yours, &c., J. F. JAMESON.
