PARLIAMENTARY INCIDENTS.
[FROM THE CORRESPONDENT OP THE PRESS.] Wellington, August 14. Mr Barton's petition for the removal of the Judges was presented to-day by Mr Sheehan. To-morrow the profession will assemble at the Banco Sitting and disclaim any knowledge of circumstances justifying the petition or their countenance to it. The debate is now progressing on Major Atkinson's motion to withdraw the Native Lands Bill, without any prospect of a division to-night. Mr Lusk, with the concurrence of Sir G. Grey and other Opposition members, lias moved an amendment which brings the whole question on again. Mr Ballancc lias not spoken yet, but lie
declines to accept the Government compromise. Doubts are entertained as to whether the Government will carry their motion on a
division, but I have good authority for saying they have a majority on it.
