The following judgment was by the Ecsidcnt Magistrate at the Court, Lyttelton. “It appears from the evidence produced before the Court that, if the Quiver carried any lights, of which there is great doubt, they were evidently from the direction in which the two vessels were beadin'’', shut out from the Taranaki; and, although the captain of the Quiver says that ho considered himself in danger when the steamer was four miles off still he took no steps to avoid a collision, either hr going about and standing in shore, or by showing a‘ light to indicate his whereabouts to those in charge of the Taranaki, until so close that it was impossible to avoid a collision. Tteiefoie Ico - sider that the Quiver was alone to blame foi the collision. The allegation of the master and seaman of the Quiver that the “look-out of the Taranaki was off duty was unsustained and on oath coutiaW. Worster, nautical assessor and master of ship Waikato, concurred in the decision. The brig Wave, from Auckland, arrived this ”Sooner Kate McGregor sailed for Auckland this morning. _ —,
