MAGISTRATES’ COURTS.
CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, August 3. (Before C. Whitefoord, Esq., R.M.) Drunk and Disorderly. —Theresa Dixon, charged with being drunk and using obscene language in the public street, was sentenced to five weeks’ imprisonment with hard labor. James Gapes was fined 20s and cab hire. Two first offenders were each lined os. Charles Benson was remanded until Saturday. Francis South, who had been remanded for medical treatment, was brought up and discharged. False Pretences. —J. W. Kirton was charged with obtaining goods from A. Anderson, storekeeper, by false pretences. Accused had represented to the prosecutor that he was employed on the railway. In reply to the Bench, accused said his family had been in very distressed circumstances. He had applied for employment on the railway, and believed lie would obtain it, when he would immediately pay Mr Anderson. His Worship remanded accused for a fortnight on his own recognizances, and directed Inspector Feast to report as to his conduct in the interval. Neglected Child.— Mary Ann MeCardal, a young girl, was brought up under the Neglected and Criminal Children’s Act, and sent to the Industrial School fortwelve months.
