A despatch from Lord Loftus to Earl Derby says that fears are entertained of terrible vengeance on the part of Mussulmans for Russian atrocities, Singapore, July 28. The Turkish army corps concentrated at Plevna threatens the Russian communication with Roumania. The Turkish Landwehr have been called out. London, July 25. The following vessels have arrived : —From Melbourne : Highflyer, Hapsysford (?). From Sydney: Eastminster, AVavc of Life, Rajah. From Lyttelton : Ship Canterbury. INTERPROVINCIAL. [per press agency.] Wellington, July 28. The Custom authorities have received the following notification from the Secretary to the Marine Board of South Australia; —A new bright revolving first order light, having an eclipse every thirty seconds, will be exhibited at Tapara Reef, Spencer Grilf, after August 20th ; visible about eighteen miles. Westport, July 28. Ellen Wau was committed to gaol last night, under coroner’s warrant, for manslaughter of her infant child, eleven months old, who died through neglect and ill-treat-ment. Dunedin, July 28. A donation of £SO has been forwarded to the Dunedin Hospital by the mother of a young Englishman who died in it in 1875. A meeting was held last evening, at which there was a large attendance of delegates from workshops and factories, and there was a general expression that a demonstration of all trades should be held to support members of House who have taken up the matter of Grovcrnmcnt importation of manufactured material. Resolutions were passed unanimously, fixing on Saturday evening, 4th August, for a meeting. The movement will take the form of a trade procession, which will meet at the Fire Brigade Depot, and march through the town to the place of meeting, which will probably be held in the open air, if weather is fine. If not the meeting will be held in one of the public halls.
