ARRIVAL OF THE OPAWA AT LONDON. We hear that another of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s ships has made a splendid run to London. The Opawa left Lyttelton, carrying a wheat cargo, on the 13th of May, and arrived prior to the 25th of July, so that she has |made the passage under seventy-two days. There is no news yet of the arrival of the ships Canterbury, which sailed on the 19th of April, Auckland, which sailed on the 10th of May, nor of the May Queen, which sailed on the 6th of May, all from Lyttelton. Of the above ships, the Opawa was the only one which had not been docked in the cJony, and this makes her Serformance all the more creditable. The few Zealand Company have advices of the sailing of the Otaki, for Auckland, and Pareora, for Port < ’halmers, THE SHIP WAIKATO, FROM LONDON. As reported yesterday, a ship was signalled early in the morning, and the N.Z.S. Co.’s flag being hoisted all doubt as to her being the expected Waikato was dispelled. About noon the p.s. Titan went out to the ship, which was still some miles outside the heads, the wind being very light. At 2|p.m. she took her in tow, and about four the anchor was lot go off Stoddart’s Point. The health officer and Mr March, immigration officer, went off to the ship in the Government steam launch, and all being in good health the vessel was speedily passed. The Waikato looked in splendid trim as she arrived alongside. Carrying immigrants, she is very light compared with many vessels arriving here, and to judge from her appearance one could see the passage had been a fine weather one. Since her last trip here under Captain Rose’s command the Waikato has made some good runs. She did the trip home from Wellington in 76 days from port to dock. Her trip out was only 84 clays. This time her performance is again most creditable, being 78 days from Plymouth to the Snares, and 83 days from port to port. Capt. Worster is still in command, and is as popular as ever, and the chief officer is our old friend Mr Best. Dr Haines was surgeon-superintendent, and he also has gained universal goodwill. The Waikato brings out 143 immigrants, 7 saloon, and 3 steerage passengers, besides a large and valuable cargo. Her visitors first proceeded to inspect the single girls’ compartment, where there were lodged t)i, under the guardianship of Miss Mclntosh. They seora well suited to the requirements of our provincial district, being nearly all domestic servants, a number of whom, however, are going to their friends. They were lodged, as usual, right aft, but there is one new arrangement which appears to be a good one. Instead of there being any communication with the main deck, the after hatch,by which access is gainedto their quarters,is covered in completely, so that they can only get out on to the poop, a covered gallery leading to the companion way. This compartment was very clean, and had an excellent bath-room attached. The married people, consisting of eleven families, were lodged amidships, down the main hatch, They are nearly all agricultural laborers, and their division was in admirable order. Dr. flames reports that the general health throughout the voyage has been remarkably good. There were no" deaths, and two birtiis have taken place, Captain Worster states that he has done the round trip in seven months and six days, two months of which were passed in London. The immigrants will be landed to-day, and the ship berthed on Monday next. The directors of the company went down to the ship on her arrival. SHIFTING TELEGRAMS. Port Chalmers, July 26.
