The s.s Wakatipu sailed last night for Sydney, via Wellington. She took 170 tons of cargo, and amongst her passengers were a number of the General Assembly members on their way to Parliament. The Malay, barque, Capt. Croll, arrived at an anchorage off the Breakwater yesterday afternoon. Capt. Croll reports leaving Wellington with part cargo of Hobart Town produce for this port, at 2 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10th, with a westerly breeze, and passing Cape Campbell at 9.30 a.m., when it fell calm; next day encountered a S.S.W. gale, and hove the ship to; the next day the gale continued, but wore ship, and on Friday sighted the land, and at 3 p.m. a northerly breeze sprung up ; sighted the Peninsula next day, and had calms and light airs to arrival as above. DEPARTURE OF THE S.S. GAZELLE FROM THE BLUFF. The residents at the Bluff'appear to have shown great interest in the Gazelle’s expedition in search of the gold in the General Grant. Captain McClatchio, who has recently returned from the Bluff', informs us that a large proportion of the population assembled on the wharf on Saturday hist to see the Gazelle sail and wish her luck, They gave her three hearty cheers as she steamed away. The Gazelle is well manned and fitted for the trip. She carries three tried divers and two complete diving dresses and sets of pumps. Captain P. M'Conville has gone to superintend the expedition, and all aboard are most sanguine of success; the more so as one of the hands, who was left on the island with Mr Stevens and returned to the Bluff' in the Awaroa schooner a few days ago, states that he has seen the outline of the vessel very distinctly in the clear water close to the rocks, and he thinks she is lying at no great depth. It is to be hoped that it has been reserved for Canterbury to succeed when so many have failed. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Hokitika, July 17. Arrived—Albion.
