CANTERBURY MUSEUM.
The following contributions were received by the Canterbury Museum during the quarter ending June 30th, 1877 : Mr John King, Cavershani Hotel —Specimens of the tomentum of the Celmisia coriacea, Cotton or Satin plant of the settlers, detached from the under surface of the leaves (from Lake Wanaka). Mr J. J. Parker, Colombo street—Specimens of Dragon hen Pigeon (prize bird), Pouter hen Pigeon, and Blue Pouter cock Pigeon. Mr George Gould, Christchurch —Collection of Ceramic Art, illustrating the manufacture at Messrs W. T. Copeland 'and Sons’works at Stoke-upon-Trent, also containing sixty-three specimens showing the progress of that most ancient art from Etruscan to the present time. Selected through the instrumentality of S. W. Silver, Esq., by E. Copeland, Esq., in London. Also, copy of the picture of Captain Cook, F.R.S., in Greenwich Hospital painted by Dance, copied by E. R. Breach. Dr. Donald, Lyttelton —Specimen of Macrotheli Huttonii.
Mr Q-. Bird, Telegraph Inspector—Specimen of Naultinus elegans, Tree Gecko. Mr J. J. Parker, Colombo street —Specimen of Red Baldhead Pigeon. Mr Hugh T. Knyvett, Broadlands, Burnham—Specimen of Hieracidea Novae Zealandise, Quail-hawk, male. Mr H. Selwyn Smith —Two specimens of Meleagrina margaritifera, also one of Malleus nib us, from Western Australia. Mr Thomas March, West Oxford —Specimen of Chert and Diabasie ashes. Mr John Findlay, Christchurch —Greenstone adze, found whilst digging the foundation of the Canterbury Club. Mr W. Graham, sen., Lyttelton —“ Sun ” newspaper, printed in gold, published in 1838, containing an account of the Queen’s coronation.
Miss Edith Potts, Ohinitahi —Specimen of Meiomoira macrocephala,yellow-breasted Tit. Master Freeman Potts —Two specimens of Anema Monopterygium, Catfish, Washed up by the earthquake wave. Miss Beatrice Potts—Two specimens of Crustaceans, Lironeca Novae Zealandise. Colonel Packe—Specimen of Rhynchaspis vafiegata, Shoveller drake, in abnormal plumage. Rev. G. J. Cholmondeley, Opawa—Specimen of Turdus merula, Blackbird. Mr Richard Rose, Sumner —Specimen of Prion turtur, Whalebird. Mr A. M. Newman, Weka Pass, Waikari — Specimen of Splueria Robertsii, Vegetable Caterpillar ; also collection of bones of Dinorms and Aptornis, obtained from a spring at Waipukurau, North Island. Air 11. Day, Telegraph office—Specimen of Arclea sacra, white crane (a female). Mr J. M. Munce, Bealey—Collection of land shells, Helices.
Mr J. H. Draper, Longbeach—Specimen of Eudyptes Pachyrhynchus, crested penguin. Mr A. T. M‘Donald, Auckland —Specimens of Retinitc from the ATaikato brown coal, and collection of small volcanic bombs.
Master John Gordon —Specimen of Athene Hovte Zealandifc, More-pork. Master AVilliam S. Gordon —Specimen of Ocydromus Australis, Sparrm, Woodhen, Weka.
Messrs Bradley and Rulofson, San Francisco, through Mr Russell J. Goodman, Post Office, Christchurch —A large photograph, Men of Mark, containing 110 portraits. Mr H. Day, Telegraph Office —Specimen of Avocet (Recurvirostra rubricollis). Sir Cracroft Wilson, K.C.S.L, Cashmere — Specimen of Ealco ferox, Sparrowhawk, male. Mr T. H. Potts, F.L.S., Ohinitahi —Specimen of Omastrephes Sloanii, ten-armed Cuttle fish.
Acclimatisation Society, Christchurch —Specimen of Testudo radiata, Madagascar, male.
Mrs W. Reed, Dampier Bay, Lyttelton — Specimen of calcined flint from the fire of the Tower of London.
Mrs Ibbott, Gloucester street west —Six silver coins, twenty-five copper coins, and one nickel coin.
Mr E. Maples, Hew Brighton HotelSpecimen of Ortygometra alfinis, Gray, small spotted rail. Mr ISathan Wilson, Mahurangi, Auckland —Specimens of burnt and unburnt Hydraulic Lime, as used in his works. Mrs Marmaduke Dixon, Eyrewell, West Eyreton—Four plates and one dish, old blue and gold Wedgewood China, also two saucers and one cup, old Porcelain, Chinese manufacture.
Mr J. J. Parker, Colombo street —One specimen of Antwerp pigeon, and two specimens of young silver owl pigeons.
