Why the British Fleet has been Moved. Sistova Sacked. Russian Defeat in Asia Confirmed. Russian Advance. Bombay, July 7. The reason assigned for sending the British squadron to Besika Bay is that it may be within convenient reach of communication with Mr Layard at Constantinople. The Bulgarians have sacked Sistova. Wellington, July 9. The Agent-General telegraphs as follows under date London, July 6, 7.15 p.m. The Russians have been severely defeated in Asia, and are said to have fallen back to the Araxes Valley. The attack on Botoum, as yet has been unsuccessful. It is reported that 120,000 Russians have crossed the Danube with an immese team of artillery. The Russian main force is south of Babudagh in Dobrudscha, and their cavalry are scouring the country to the foot of the Balkans. Commercial. The Bank rate has been reduced to 21 per cent.
