teachers' examination

The following report on the recent exami nation of teachers was read : July 3rd, 1877.

Sir, —We have tlie honor to submit our report on the examination held last week for third class certificates. Twenty candidates presented themselves, of whom three, Mr A. S. Baker, Mr J. Mclntyre, and Mr A. Nicholls were passed. Four others, Miss E. Forbes, Miss A. Gundry, Mr B. ILow, and Mr A. Proudlock, acquitted themselves sufficiently well in other subjects, but did not quite reach the required standard in grammar, and we recommend that they he allowed to sit for examination in January in that subject alone. Some of the unsuccessful candidates who are now engaged [as teachers, and are fully efficient in that capacity, stand greatly in need of technical instruction. If a plan could be devised by which they might attend at the Normal School for even a few weeks' training, it is probable that they would pass at the next ensuing examination. Such a course of training 1 might be offered them during the harvest season, when many of the schools are closed. "We have, &c, W. J. Habens, 8.A., J. V. Colbokne-Veei,, M.A., J. P.
