Martin’s Bay. —ln spite of their sadly isolated position the settlers at Martin’s Bay appear to be making some headway in the family line. Some amusement, says the Guardian , was caused at the Otago Education Board by the reading of a letter from one of the residents applying for a schoolmaster. The writer, Mr Jeremiah Dalzcll, in support of his application, boasted that the settlement now contained sixteen children. It was resolved, as the case was an exceptional one, to grant a salary of £75 for a side-school teacher.
