Reported Russian Defeat. Bombardm nt of Rustchuk. London, June 27. Turkish despatches state that the Turkish commander of the forces in Asia Minor attacked and completely defeated the Russians at Batoum. The Russians have commenced to bombard Rustchuk. The guns are replying vigorously.

INTERPROVINOIAL. Nelson, June 29. The Richmond Hill Silver Mining Company are raising vary rich ore in quantity, estimated to be worth £l3O per ton. Dtjnedin, June 29. The first half-yearly meeting of the Dunedin Co-operative Store Company was held last night. The receipts for the half-year were £3054, and the expenditure £2942; liabilities, £IBB7 ; assets, £lß3l. Two G-ood Templars made themselves conspicuous at the meeting. It appears that repeated promises had been given by the Good Templar bodies to assist the co-operative store, provided that no bottle license was obtained for it. The promised support was not rendered, only two G-ood Templars responding to the circular which had been sent to them to become shareholders in the Company. The directors of the company recently obtained a bottle license, and now two or three Good Templar shareholders are protesting against it. During yesterday's sitting of the Supreme court in Banco, a rule >/isi was obtained, calling upon a solicitor to show cause why he should not answer statements contained in certain affidavits presumedly alleging misconduct. In such cases it is the practice not to mention the name of the solicitor, and this practice was followed yesterday. The Times states that Sir Francis Dillon Bell lias accepted a seat in the Legislative Council, and that Mr A. R. C. Strode has been asked by the Government to become a member of that House.
