The Russians Crossed the Danube.
Kars Holding Out. Dobrudscha to be Abandoned. Russian Defeat. Montenegrins still Resisting 1 . Singapore, June 26. The Russians have occupied Matchin, on the right bank of the Danube. The passage over the Danube still continues. London, June 25. The bombardment of the northern forts of Kars continues. A sortie was repulsed. The Kurds have invested Bayazed. It is believed to be the intention of the Turks to abandon Dobrudscha, but to make a firm stand at Trajan's Avail. The Porte dissents from England's view regarding the propriety of not neutralising \ho Canal while refusing a belligerent power permission to erect tnc necessary works for protection against the enemy. Wellington, June 27. The Government have received the following telegram, dated London, June 25, 4.45 p.m. The Russians have crossed the Danube at G-alatz, and hold Matchin, with slight loss. They were well received by the Christian inhabitants. Kars holds out. The Russians were repulsed in their last attack with great loss. The Emperor is with the troops at Ployesti. The Montenegrins are still resisting, although defeated, after killing seven thousand Turks. Prince Gortsehakoff assures Lord Derby that the Suez Canal is to be respected as international. Constantinople is not to be occupied by Russia or other European powers if conquered, but is to be a free city, and its future occupation by any European power is to be subsequently arranged.
