A despatch from Grortschakoff promises that Russia will respect British interests, and states further, that so long as England remains neutral Russia will not interfere with Egypt' or the Suez Canal, nor extend the war elsewhere, the necessity not requiring her to go beyond Stamboul. With a view to the future, and for the protection of common interests which may belong to European Powers, those Powers should act in concert and settle the question as to the passage of the Dardanelles and Bosphorus on equitable bases. The despatch adds that the Czar has resolved to obtain a guarantee of security, for Christinns in the Turkish provinces. The San Francisco mail has been delivered. Arrived —Durham.

A special telegram from Wellington reports that Mr Passmore, Superintending Engineer of Constructed Railways, is about to sever his connection with the railway department of the colony. There were several alarms of fire on Saturday night, but nothing serious occurred. The football matches are lacking in spirit, owing to the late fatal accident. Dunedin, June 25.

It has been determined to keep the lists for the Macandrew testimonial fund open for a few days longer, and it is understood that the presentation will be made on the eve of his departure for Wellington, to attend next session of Parliament.
