She is a handsome little boat, built by Messrs Sparrow and Co., of Dunedin, and her hull and engines are nearly the same as those of the s.s. Tui, which was built by the same firm. The Jane Douglas is, however, 11 tons larger than the Tui, and her deck fittings are different. She is employed in trading between Napier and Gisborne, but was chartered to convey a cargo of tallow from Napier to Dunedin, for the ship Pernglen, and Mr C. W. Turner has takes advantage of her trip to the South to send a full cargo of flour to Napier, for which port she loads and sails to-day. The ship Otago was sighted by the s.s. Hawea yesterday about twenty miles off the land, so her arrival may bo expected to-day. The S.W. wind would oblige her to beat in, thus preventing her arrival yesterday. The Onward, schooner, Captain Ody, left Westport on the 31st ult. with a light E. wind, which held till 4 p.m. same day; calms and light variables followed for twenty - four hours and were succeeded by a fresh S. breeze, the vessel passing Spit End same day and rounding Stevens’ Island following morning.
