Tuesday, June 5. (Before G-. L. Melhsh, Esq., chan man, and R. J. S. Harman and H. J. Tailored, Esqs., Commissioners.) NEW APPLICATIONS. Thomas Brooks applied for a wine and beer license for premises at the corner cf St. Asaph street and Lincoln road. _ Mr Thomas appeared to support the application, and presented a petition signed by a number of residents in the neighborhood in favour of the application. License declined. T. I). Jones applied for a hotel license at Plnllipstown, and submitted plans of the proposed budding. A requisition, signed by a large number of residents, was presented in favor of the license being granted. The applicant said if the license were granted he purposed forming a bowling green on a portion of the land. There had been no opposition lodged against the license. In reply to the Court, Inspector Buckley said the nearest place of worship was at Phillipstown, about a quarter of a mile distant, and the house would be immediately opposite the police station. The Chahman told the applicant that the Bench could not grant the license at once, and they could not say what ■ opposition might be raised after the building was erected. There did not seem to be any •objection at present. “In reply to the applicant, the Chairman said the Bench were inclined to look favourably on the application, but could not, of course, say what opposition might be raised when the application was made for the license. Mr Jones said the petition had been signed by nearly all the landowners in the neighbourhood, and if any opposition had been intended there would have been ample time to have made jt during the last three months. James Rankin applied for a hotel license at the corner of Colombo street and South Belt.
