UNITED CANTERBURY CRICKET CLUB.
A general meeting of the members of the United Canterbury Cricket Club was held on Saturday evening at Radcliffc's Hotel. Mr C. C. Corfe, Yice-prcsident, occupied the chair. The Secretary (Mr E. C. J. Stevens) read the following report: — Your committee have thought it convenient that the opportunity of a general meeting being specially c ailed should he taken to present a statement of its affairs. In doing so they con-o-ratulate the club on the fact that it is now practically clear of debt. During the current financial year .£45 8s 63 of former liabilities has been paid, the assets accrued prior to that period bein" .£lB 13s Id, leaving a clear reduction of liability during this year of £26 15s, to which may be added an increase in the property of the club of about <£24. The lawn mower, included in this latter sum, has been thoroughly repaired, and is now in better condition than when purchased in November last. The principal object of the meeting is to take into consideration the proposal of the Cricket Association meeting, recently held, that this club shall hand over its responsibilities and rights in connection with the Hagley Park Grounds to a Cricket Association, consisting of all the clubs who are now or subsequently may be in regular use of any part of those grounds, the management being placed in a committee, consisting of one delegate from each club answering the description just given. Your committee have thought it advisable not to express any opinion either in recommendation or otherwise of the proposal, as they think that any conclusion arrived at should bo the result of the fullest, unbiassed discussion by all members of the club who may attend the meeting. C. C. Cokfe, Chairman. June 2nd, 1877.
A statement of accounts was also submitted, from which it appeared that during the year the receipts had been £258 4s lOd, of which £B2 lis represented the subscription revenue of the year. On the motion of Mr E. C. J. Stevens the report and balance sheet as audited were adopted. Mr Stevens then said that, as the meeting was aware, a meeting of cricketers had been held to consider what should be done with the Haglcy Park grounds. It had been decided that the ground should be handed over to a committee consisting of one member delegated by each club, which committee should also have the management of foreign matches. At present the U.C.C. had the right of the ground, provided that they supplied any club applying for ground with a good and sufficient ground for cricket at a rent not exceeding the cost of maintenance, the referees to be the Park and Domain Board. It was now proposed that the right of the club should merge in the proposed committee. The first thing the meeting would have to do would bo to accept or reject the proposal, and if ■ accepted, to appoint a delegate. Mr Neilson moved—" That the proposal by the meeting of cricketers that the Club should hand over its rights and privileges as regarded Haglcy Park to a cricketing association, be accepted by the U.C.C." Mr Blakiston seconded the motion, which was agreed to. Mr Stevens was appointed delegate of the v U.C.C, to the cricketing association, on the understanding that lie should be relieved of the duty after July 2nd. The meeting then adjourned.
