AVON ROAD BOARD.

At a meeting of the Avon Board on the 21st, the chairman and all the members were present. The surveyor's report was read and considered. Tn reference to the letter from the Riccarton Road Board received List meeting, the clerk was instructed to write referring them to clause 5 of the Roads Ordinance, and state that the Avon Board object to pay for work done outside their district; also to refer them to former letter upon the subject. With regard to Mr Spencer's application for track to King's bridge, the clerk was instructed to write accepting his offer to do the work for the sum named (£100). The surveyor was instructed to call for tenders for shingle for Caledonian road. A deputation saw the Board relative to shingling the lane opposite the Hon. J. T. Peacock's. The clerk was instructed to reply that unless the road was formed half a chain wide they must adhere to their former resolution, but at the same time would permit them to obtain gravel from the Board's pit free of charge. A requisition was received from Mr Maples and others re New Brighton road. The surveyor was instructed to see to the road, to do any necessary repairs lie may think requisite, and report upon the road at next meeting. Letter was received from Mr F. Smith asking to be allowed to have shingle from the Board's pit; granted. The surveyor was instructed to see to the side channels in Merivale lane, and also to give notice regarding trees overshadowing the roads. With regard to the petition of inhabitants of North street, the clerk was instructed to write to the Church Property Trustees, directing their attention to the resolution of the Board relative to taking over the road. A rate of one shilling in the £ was struck for the current year. Tenders were received for Vague and Hawthorn's roads, and the tender of Foster and M'llroy for the roads was accepted. Accounts to the amount of £ll4 15s 9d were passed and ordered to be paid.
