The Metropolitan.—At the half-yearly 'iieeting of the C.J.C. it was determined to double the stakes given for the C.J.C. Handicap and Canterbury Cup. In Wellington and Dunedin this step has already been taken, and, as was truly remarked, if Canterbury desires to keep up her prestige, .-he must do the same. We believe the public will come forward liberally and respond to the call of the Club for subscriptions, so as to enable them to increase their stakes, eid •aake our meeting as attractive as tiwo in thij other paptp of the colony,
