Colonial Sertantgalism.—A good story of colonial servantgalism comes from Waikouaiti. The other day the female servant of a clergyman residing at Waikouaiti boldly requested him “to have her boots cleaned.” The rev. gentleman (whose courteous manners are well known in the city), having carefully explained that his boy was absent on a message, then tucked up his sleeves and cleaned the boots himself. The moral of the Dunedin Guardian on this story is that the lesson of humility thus practically illustrated is worth half a dozen sermons to our aggressive servant girls.
