CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday, May 17. (Before G. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.)

Abduction. —George Robertson, a halfcast, was brought up charged with the abduction of a young half-cast Maori girl named Olliria Robertson. Inspector Buckley told his Worship that accused had [been arrested on a telegram received from the Otago police, and he would ask for a remand until the arrival of the next Dunedin steamer, which would no doubt bring up the warrant. In reply to his Worship the Inspector said the young girl was in Court, and though the telegram said she was only fifteen years of age, she herself said she was eighteen. She told him she had not met accused by appointment, but happening to meet at Oamaru they came'on t o Christchurch together. His Worship remanded Robertson until 10th instant. In reply to accused Ins Worship said lie woidd grant bail in two sureties of £25 each, himself in £SO. Drunk and Disorderly. —Joseph Haskett, charged with drunkenness, was fined 10s. Annie Wharton, an old offender, was iimd 40s and Is Gd cab fare. Tour inebriates, who appeared for the first time, were each fined ss. Fighting. —Morris Upton and William Welsh, arrested for fighting the previous night in Manchester 'street, were each fined ss. Assault. —-James McGrath was charged on summons with having assaulted Matthew Sandford. Complainant, it seems, had given evidence in the Court a few days before the assault took place in a case in which defendant was concerned, and the latter taxed him with having sworn falsely. This complainant denied, and McGrath then spat in Ins face. It was shown that defendant had assaulted Sandford on previous occasions, and repeatedly threatened to repeat the offence, and his Worship ordered him to keep the peace for twelve months, himself in £2O, and one surety in a similar amount; in default, one month’s imprisonment. LYTTELTON. (Before Dr. Donald, R.M.) Thursday, May 17. Drunk on Railway. —Robert McCloy was brought up charged with this offence, and fined 20s.
