The Governor’s Visit Postponed.

The Court of Appeal was occupied all yesterday in hearing the ease of Creyko v. Dmusfield (Canterbury). Messrs Macassey and Harper for plaintiff, and Messrs Joynt and Chapman for defendant. Mr Macassey lias not yet concluded his address. A largely attended public meeting was held last night upon the question of the drainage of the city. The meeting did not advance or retard matters, as the Council having already decided to take a plebiseituni of the ratepayers, to determine whether Climie’s system of underground drainage should be adopted or not, a general vote will be taken to decide the matter.
The rock along the beach is slipping after the late rains, and injuring a couple of hotels. More slips arc imminent. As the (Governor does not visit Christchurch at present, the Commodore will not take the flagship Wolverine there, but leaves here for Fiji via Auckland to-morrow. The Sappho is ordered to return to Wellington from Samoa.
If the City of New York left San Francisco on the 2 5th ult. as stated, she is expected to arrive at Auckland on the 19th instant, in which case arrangements have been made lor the Hawea to bring the mails down the Coast immediately upon arrival.
