The heavy S.W. gale which blew with hurricane force during Wednesday night was productive of some little damage at Port Chalmers, the barque Gloucester and ship Wild Deer, which are moored at the New Pier, coming in collision, and the barque losing a portion of her stern railing, while the Wild Deer’s figure head was considerable damaged. The hulk Don Juan and steamers Ladybird and Phoebe also broke from then’ head moorings, and swung athwart the harbor. They were taken in tow by the p.s. Eoputai, and remoored during yesterday afternoon when the gale abated. —OUujo Guardian. Friday’s New Zealand Times says the following vessels have returned from Worser Bay, where they were compelled to bring up, owing to the unfavorable wind and sea prevailing in the Strait: —Merlin, which put in here from Lyttelton through stress of weather, and bound to Waitara; Elizabeth, for Foxton, and Rose of Eden, for Havelock. A cutter, supposed to be the Dido, put into Worser Bay yesterday morning. She was probably unable to make Cloudy Bay, owing to the westerly wind, and her master deemed it prudent to run back for Worser Bay. The schooners Pelican and Alert are now in Worser Bay, having put in there through stress of weather. They are on a voyage from Hokitika to Dunedin. It will be remembered that fears were entertained for the safety of the Pelican. It is estimated that the cost of repairing the injury to the steamer Napier, caused by (he collision with the Tui, will be about JJSO. We heard it stated that (he owners of the Tui had consented to pay all the expenses incurred by the accident.
