(Per Press Agency., INTERPROVIN CIAL. Earthquake at the Maori Kaik. Dunedin, May 12. A smart shock of earthquake is reported to have taken place at the Maori Kaik yesterday forenoon. It seemed to travel from east to ■west, and was of instantaneous duration. Westport, May 12. The management of the Albion Ngakawau Coal Company has been transferred from Nelson to Dunedin. Messrs Larnach, Oliver, Turnbull, Proudloot and Urodrick are on the new directory. The first business will be to j decide on the offer of Henderson and Co to I construct branch works connecting the mine | with the Mount Rochfort railway. | Important Decision. | Wellington, May 12. j In the Supreme Court this morning the I Chief Justice delivered judgment in the case I Hammon v the Public Trustee, in which one j creditor endeavoured to recover from a life insurance policy, which Robert Spark Rowe, a bankrupt, had effected with the Victoria Life Assurance Company prior to his decease. Rowe left a widow and five children, and the point involved was whether a policy of insurance is protected to the family from the j creditors on the death of the assured. The Court decided that it was, and judgment with costs given in favor of defendant.
