Co's snip Opawa cleared this morning and proceeds to sea this afternoon. THE KATE BKAIN. The Auckland correspondent of the Otayo Times telegraphs that the report thai the vessel sighted by the schooner Argosy oil' Kaikouras was the Kad' Brain is not believed here. The schooner Elizabeth arrived here last night from Lyttelton, and her log; shows that the chances of the Kate Brain still being safe are .so small as to be hardly worth buoying up hope with. The Elizabeth let! Wangaroa on 7th April, and made .East Cape on 9th. From that time till the 23rd she was beating against a strong southerly wind, trying to make Lyttelton. The Kate Brain left Timaru on the morning of the 7th April, and thus it is evident that for a whole fortnight she had winds which would have brought her to Auckland Jiving had nothing happened her. Then again the Elizabeth left Lyttelton on the 2nd inst.—the day that the Argosy is supposed to have passed the Kate Brain. Captain Goodman reports having southerly winds up the coast. To use the captain's own language, " Had the vessel been the Kate Brain, she could have been in Wellington sixteen hours after the Argosy saw her; and it she had been coining on here she would have been here before now. The theory that she might have been blown off the land is untenable, as the gale of the Bth and 9ih of April was from S.E., and therefore it would be much more likely to blow her into Palliscr Bay than out to sea.
