MAGISTRATES' COURTS.
CHKISTCHURCH. Wednesday, May 9. (Before G-. L. Mellish, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. Annie Wharton was brought up on a charge of having been drunk and disorderly on the previous night. Being an old offender, she! was fined 20s, and cabhire Is. Ellen Talbot was brought up on a, similar charge. Prisoner pleaded to be let off this time, and she woidd go to her sister at Temuka. Her sister had sent for her several times, but she would go to her if let off. His Worship said he would adjourn the case for forty-eight hours. If prisoner was still in town she would be brought up on this charge. Prisoner thanked his Worship, and assured him she would clear out. Illkoally on Pkemisks. —John Wickeliff was charged with being illegally on the premises of Feathers' Hotel at Addington. As prisoner had not been previously before the Court, he was discharged witli a caution, the police being told to look after him. Protection Obdeb.—Mary Bolt summoned her husband, John Bott, with a view to have her earnings protected, under the Married Woman's Protection of Property Act. The complainant (who had a child in her arms) deposed that her husband had habitually neglected to provide for the support of herself and child. He had drunk very much at one time, but was a teetotaller. In reply to his Worship, defendant stated that he earned 7s a day, and sometimes Bs. It cost him £1 a week for board and lodging. His Worship ordered defendant to pay 15s a week.
